On July 28, 2023, the 31st Summer Universiade was successfully opened in Chengdu. Graduate students from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence in Sports (IAIS) actively responded to the call from Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES) and worked as assistant engineers in badminton, fencing, volleyball, martial arts, athletics and other events, taking on tasks such as score management, timing and scoring, and television subtitles, helping to smoothly carry out the technical support work of the Chengdu Universiade.
LIN Tianqi, CHEN Shu, and ZHANG Xiangning, as timing and scoring assistant engineers in badminton and volleyball events, were mainly responsible for game rules and scoring systems, mastering the timing methods and scoring rules of the game, recording the scores and other related data of each player, and organizing these data into reports for subsequent analysis and review. Starting from the week before the opening ceremony, they insisted on daily maintenance and debugging of the equipment to ensure that athletes and spectators could have a real-time and complete understanding of the competition during the official competitions.
LI Yi and QIU Jiagang served as assistant engineers for score processing in the fencing event, responsible for maintaining the LED display screens and TV screens in the competition venue, ensuring that the content displayed on each screen is consistent with the current competitions, and avoiding black screen situations. They also needed to maintain the data interface of the screen to ensure that the data interface corresponding to each screen was correct and foolproof.
YAN Wenlin and LI Yajie, as assistant engineers for TV subtitles in martial arts and volleyball projects, were mainly responsible for assisting the main engineer in preparing, transporting and installing machines, and cooperating with the subtitle director to handle TV subtitles, ensuring the normal operation of the martial arts competition subtitle system.
At present, IAIS graduate students, as an important component of the backstage support team for the Chengdu Universiade, are supporting the smooth progress of the Universiade. In the process of providing professional volunteer services for the Universiade, graduate students have expressed that participating in this large-scale sports event not only broadened their horizons, but also felt the charm and value of sports, and strengthened their faith in engaging in sports research. Students will follow the volunteer spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress”, successfully complete the service guarantee work for the Chengdu Universiade with a full mental state.
